Complete Picture of Health

Having a happy social life may be as important to your health as not smoking.

People in a study who not only made good physical health decisions, but also worked on maintaining a satisfying social life, were more likely to be completely healthy compared to people who only followed physical health guidelines. Keep your social network strong by picking up the phone this weekend and calling an old friend.

Complete health is characterized by not only the absence of disease, but also a high level of both physical and emotional well-being. Exercising regularly, watching your weight, and not smoking are important choices for optimal health. However, they do not guarantee good health. Research suggests that maintaining strong social connections also may be important for complete health. Good ways to get involved in social activities are to join a religious group, a civic group, or a recreational sports group in your area.

RealAge Benefit: Taking care of your emotional health and well-being can make your RealAge up to 16 years younger.
